Living in Silverdale, WA: Everything You Need to Know Before Moving Here
Why Silverdale Is Kitsap's Most Popular Community
Silverdale consistently tops the list when Kitsap buyers describe their target community. It's not hard to understand why: the best commercial amenities in the county, excellent schools, easy highway access, and a location that splits the difference between Seattle commute routes and Kitsap outdoor lifestyle.
But Silverdale is also more than a convenient suburb โ it has genuine character, beautiful waterfront at Dyes Inlet, and established neighborhoods that give it a rooted, community feel. Here's the full picture.
Location & Commute
Silverdale sits in central Kitsap County on the west side of Dyes Inlet, just off Highway 3. It's about 25 miles from Bremerton and 5 miles from Bremerton National Airport.
Commute to Seattle: Most Silverdale residents commuting to Seattle use the Bremerton-Seattle Ferry (60-minute crossing, hourly departures). The ferry terminal is 20 minutes from most Silverdale neighborhoods. For car commuters, Highway 3 south to the Bremerton Bridge, then north on Highway 16 to the Tacoma Narrows area is the main alternate route โ though this is not practical for daily Seattle commuting.
Commute to PSNS: Silverdale is 20โ30 minutes to PSNS & IMF via Highway 3. This makes it extremely popular with shipyard workers who want suburban amenities.
Local commute: Within Kitsap, Silverdale's central location is unmatched. Bremerton, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, and Bainbridge are all within 30 minutes.
Neighborhoods Within Silverdale
Newberry Hill: One of Silverdale's most desirable areas. Larger lots, newer homes (1990sโ2010s), excellent North Kitsap School District access (technically on the border). Trails connect to Newberry Hill Heritage Park. Quiet, household-oriented.
Clear Creek / Ridgetop: Newer construction subdivisions with modern floor plans and HOA maintenance. Popular with young households. Easy access to Highway 3 and commercial areas.
Silverdale West / Greaves Way area: More established neighborhood with mature landscaping. A mix of 1970sโ1990s homes with larger lots. Some of the best value in Silverdale.
Waterfront / Dyes Inlet: Limited supply of waterfront and water-view properties. Premium pricing but exceptional lifestyle.
